Learning outcomes reflection of the year 2010-2011
International Understanding:
This year was very fruitful and I broadened my horizon a lot, this is because we explored issues across different countries..in many subjects. For example, in English, there was a module in which we were learnt about a play called “Master Harold and the Boys” and it focuses on Apartheid in South Africa. We had to do a lot of research upon it, and it helped me understand racism in other countries. Also, in Humanities, we learnt about the stages of revolutions and studied the French Revolution in depth, we understood a lot about the hierachal system of the day and the history of what happened, again this is an example of us learning about other countries and the situation people were in, providing us with a deeper understanding of the international world.
2. Contextual Learning: In terms of the AOI skills developed this year, I think my strongest point would be human ingenuity because we had to create many products in class this year and the process of designing and creating things is of course the very meaning of human ingenuity. I improved my skills in the D.T workshop and also my sewing skills because this year in technology, we were required to design a t-shirt that would raise awareness of environmental problems. I learnt how to use the silk screening and heat transfer technique which is extremely useful. Also, I composed my own music piece title “Arabian Princess” in magic composer, during music class. We had to brainstorm a lot of ideas and this certainly qualifies as human ingenuity! Furthermore, in computer technology, we had to make an animation that raised awareness of issues in the world and I chose water pollution because water is of extreme importance in our lives. Researching on it, gave me understanding of our environment and the threats it is facing. This gave me understanding of problems in the world. 3. Approaches to learning: In Chinese lesson, earlier in the year we had to write a script and act out a Chinese drama because we were learning about scripts and how to write them. We had to design our own costumes and we needed to collarborate with our classmates. We had an extremely large group and it was very hard for me to lead them as group leader because there were just too many people! I learnt how to communicate with people and how to discuss with them.
4. Attributes of the learner profile: I developed my learner profile too this year and here are examples on how I improved in some of them. I was quite open minded this year, because we had hosted quite a lot of debates and we also had to work with many different people so we needed to think about different points of view and accept other people’s suggestions. Also, I was quite an inquirer, I did a lot of research for projects and I learnt things from watching online tutorials, taking notes in class and asking others to teach me.
